A March to the European Union Headquarters
From: A Group of Civil Society Organizations "Lil Hayat" (For Life)
To: The Head of the EU Commission in Lebanon
Mr. Patrick Renauld Beirut July 20, 2006Subject: A call on the European Union to Stop Israeli Attacks on Lebanon
"Dear Sir,
For the ninth day, Israel a UN member, resumes its attacks on Lebanon. It is using a policy of collective punishment by bombing civilians, systematically destroying Lebanon's infrastructure as well as public and private property and forcing a siege through land, air and water on Lebanon. Israel is also committing collective massacres such as that of Marwaheen which came after the UNIFIL’s refusal to shelter refugees. Bridges and junctions between Lebanese territories have been destroyed which created and is causing congestion due to internal migration of displaced families. This situation has lead to complex humanitarian and health problems. The victims to date of these attacks are civilians; those killed have reached 300 while the injured are in thousands. More than 500,000 have been forced to leave their homes and are in tragic conditions. Israel is violating international regulations as well as EU declarations such as the European Neighborhood Policy. Given your mandate at the European Union we urge you to support the Prime Minister of the Lebanese government's plea for seize fire in sympathy with the innocent civilians and to save what is left of lives, land and stone in our country, Lebanon."
